The Lake County, Illinois Business and Community Webring makes it easy for users to find new, unique and exciting sites to visit that they might otherwise not encounter. Webrings are yet another option to bring traffic to your site. Our Webring averages 3,000-4,000 ring surfers per week! Read on to learn how it works and how easy it is to join us!

The Lake County Webring is a totally free service offered to the Lake County Business Internet Community. Our Webring will provide Web visitors with a different way to locate local Web Sites of interest. The Webring is a way to group together sites with similar content by linking them together in a circle, or ring - in this case The Lake County, Illinois Business and Community Webring.

From any member site in the Webring, you can click on a “Next” link to go to adjacent sites in the ring and - if you complete the ring - wind up on the same site where you started. When you join a Webring, you place a piece of Server Side JavaScript code on your site. This code will be provided to you when your site is approved for addition to the ring. Links in that code point to a special CGI script on the Webring system that will send people to the next site in the ring.

The Webring can be accessed from any site within the ring by virtue of the code on each member site - see the bottom of this page to see what the code looks like. Part of the Webring will include Lake Online! All The Best of Lake County which currently receives over 50,000 unique visitors per month from those living and/or interested in what Lake County, IL has to offer. The Lake County Business and Community Webring is pre-defined. All sites must be pertinent to the Lake County, Illinois area and represent businesses and community organizations located in Lake County.

• We do not accept personal pages.
• We do not accept “adult” sites or those that would be offensive to the online community in general.
• Sites that are not yet formally launched or "Under Construction" will not be added to the ring. Bookmark this page and join once your site is LIVE on the Web.
• Sites using frames cannot be added to the ring - frames will break the ring and not allow smooth surfing to the other sites in the ring.
• Community sites include Non-Profit Organizations, Churches, Community Groups, Chambers of Commerce and Municipal sites located within the Lake County borders.
• “Unofficial”, humor or parody sites are not accepted.
• If your business address or location is outside of Lake County, Illinois borders you will not be added to the ring.
• If your Web site does not have the street address of your business/organization posted, we will check your domain record. If your domain record does not reflect a street address either, your site will be declined. Any reputable business will have no problem with including their physical location noted on their site.
• If the content of your site is changed after inclusion in the ring we must be notified. We will immediately terminate your position in the ring if content is no longer acceptable or *G* rated.
• If you change the page submitted to be that other than the top page or the "About You" page of your site, we will remove you from the ring. Placing the Webring code on your links or a "Webring page" is not acceptable. Ring surfers are interested in your site - not your links or the other Webrings you may be part of. • Lake Online! reserves the right to remove any site, at any time, due to receipt of complaints that the site owner is sending UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email) or Spam. The ring is dedicated to quality, ethical businesses and community groups that realize the commitment necessary for a successful business or organization. Spammers are not welcome on the ring.

Go to add your site to the ring, fill out the short form, and be sure to not leave out any fields! You will receive a confirmation that we have received your request with the URL of where to go to edit your site's information and pickup the customized HTML code to be added to your site. You can give your Webmaster this URL so they can pickup the code for insertion into your site, print the page for your Webmaster or cut-n-paste the code directly onto the front page of your site.

We are immediately notified of your request and will visit your site to see that it qualifies for inclusion in the ring and let you know that you've been approved. Next -- place that code on your page. Once you do this the system will recognize the code is in place and make your site “live” on the ring.

In all cases where addition to the ring failed or was incomplete, you will be notified only once by email the reason and what you can do to obtain a successful addition, if possible. Don't forget to Read the Webring FAQ.
